Overview

Tennis Elbow

Soon after surgery, the severe pain will reduce, but mild soreness may persist for 3 to 6 months.

After surgery, we recommend regular icing (about wound 4 to 6 times a day for about 20 minutes). Ice will help reduce pain and swelling/inflammation.

Taking ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) or other similar medicines may help. Ask your surgeon about using them.

Wound Care

Initially, a post-op dressing of gauze and an ACE wrap will be placed over your elbow. A sling is also used for comfort.

At your first post-op visit, Dr. Logan will change your dressing and teach you how to use waterproof dressings. These special dressings will be used for 2 weeks following your procedure.

Rehab

Physical therapy will begin ~1 week after surgery to work on stretching and strengthening your forearm muscles. This PT will continue for ~4 mos depending on your progress.

You may be prescribed a wrist brace. If so, wear it to avoid extending your wrist and pulling on the repaired elbow tendon.

Most people can return to normal activity and sports after 4 to 6 months.
